Here’s a few words from Charlotte about her work:
My art is a celebration of London’s everyday beauty.
Growing up here, surrounded by its vibrant pulse, shaped my vision completely. I’m captivated by the city’s ephemeral nature – the way time leaves its mark on walls through layers of posters, graffiti, and the subtle wear of the elements. This urban tapestry, always in motion, is my constant source of inspiration.
I find myself drawn to unexpected juxtapositions: nature’s tenacious hold in the concrete jungle, the surprising harmony between the wild and the tamed. A patch of wildflowers pushing through pavement, pigeons navigating the urban grid, a squirrel darting across a busy road – these seemingly insignificant moments hold a profound beauty.
My work aims to capture these fleeting moments, to highlight the resilience of life within the urban sprawl. I want viewers to see and appreciate the delicate balance between the natural and the man-made world. This duality is reflected in my process itself; I often incorporate found objects, organic materials, and urban debris into my paintings. I work with a range of techniques – collage, oils, pastels, paint and ink pens – experimenting with layering and application to bring these fleeting moments to life. Ultimately, I hope my art challenges perceptions, sparks contemplation, and fosters a deeper connection with our urban surroundings.
We have included a couple of Charlotte’s painting below to whet your appetite for the exhibition.
Each of the pictures has an accompanying poem underneath by Charlotte’s husband Jim Faircloth.
