Highams Park Lockdown Light Up & Doorstep Singalong!

Remember clapping with your neighbours for the NHS and all the key workers that supported us?   As 2020 draws to a close, let’s hold onto that feeling of Community.  On 1st December start switching on our ‘Light Up Lockdown’  lights on from 5pm.  Then at 7pm stand on your door step for a few Christmas Carols and Songs to start off the holiday season. Make a batch of mulled wine, a hot chocolate or any drink of choice, and join the social distanced singalong and raise a glass to your neighbours!!

hSpark Radio will play the carols at 7pm on the internet for you to sing along to as part of  a live request show running from 5pm – 7.30pm playing festive music. To play carols click on the hSpark Radio on the link on this page.

The Sinagalong Carols  are:
1. Deck The Halls
2. Ding Dong Merrily On High
3. Hark The Herald Angels Sing
4. We Wish You A Merry Xmas

As 2020 has been a difficult year, our Events Team thought it would be great to see it go out in a blaze of light by local residents decorating the outside of their homes or gardens with festive lights. Wouldn’t it be amazing if homes in every street of Highams Park  were lit up by residents. You don’t have to go crazy, maybe just a little string of lights, a porch, or a garden display. If you aren’t able to decorate outside, just dress your window with lights or pictures for passers by to enjoy.

Persuade your neighbours to join in, organise it on one of the many street WhatsApp groups that have developed this year.  Let’s all join together to make things brighter round Highams Park leading up to Christmas and the New Year.

You can download and print a copy of the poster on this link: Lockdown Light Up Poster

Please try to get done by 1st December so we can all turn them on together and enjoy the ambience for a month. If you can’t get it done by the 1st December, no problem, you can join in at any time.

Winchester Road Methodist Appeal for Action for Children
Winchester Road Methodist Church Appeal for Action for Children: Every year for decades, carollers from Winchester Road Methodist Church have gone out carol singing to raise money for Action for Children (previously NCH). In recent years you would have seen them at the Station or outside TESCO.
It was with a heavy heart that they realised they couldn’t support this charity this year.
When they heard about the doorstep carol singing on 1st December they asked us to put out an appeal for donations
If anyone would like to donate some spare change, please could you place your donation in an envelope clearly marked ACTION FOR CHILDREN and pop it through a letter box near them.
