All Saints Church are looking for volunteers to assist with stewarding their event ‘Nativity Goes Walk About’ on 23rd December.
The event is a peripatetic journey around Highams Park, telling the nativity story as we go.
The event starts at Humphry’s in the Park at 4pm and will end at All Saints Church to be finished by 6.30pm. Stewards will be required from 3pm onwards for a briefing and then to start managing the crowd.  There are two distinct Stewarding roles and a clear up crew needed. The first stewarding role is to accompany the actors and crowd as they move around Highams Park. Wearing hi vis jackets and carrying lit umbrellas this group will effectively surround the crowd to ensure it moves as a bubble and ensure it safely crosses roads and stays together on the streets.
The second group, working more closely with the Police, will be strategically placed to temporarily stop traffic as the procession passes through the village centre and open up the roads afterwards.
If working with people is not your thing, we do also need a clear up crew who will effectively follow the event restoring order as we go, so for example, making sure the area outside Humphrys is clear and clean after the procession leaves.
Your reward, as ever, will be our gratitude, the warm glow of community service and hot chocolate outside the church at the end!
