The Waltham Forest Music Society is delighted to announce an unexpected addition to the season’s series of guest recitals. We were contacted by the renowned concert pianist and recording artist Michael McHale with news of The Romantic Piano Tour, a special programme which he will be touring during the early part of next year to mark his 40th birthday.

Michael offered to include the WFMS in his tour, and we are pleased to announce that Friday 27th January has been confirmed as the date of his recital.

Regular patrons of our recitals will know that Michael has performed for the Society on two occasions: in November 2019 with violinist Laura Dixon and in October 2021 with clarinettist Michael Collins.

Of The Romantic Piano Tour, Michael has written:

“This programme combines beloved works by some of the Romantic era’s greatest pianist-composers with stories of romance and heartbreak, from Romeo and Juliet to the Greek myth of Hero and Leander, from love song arrangements by Clara and Robert Schumann to more contemporary takes on love and loss. As I turn 40 this year, I have also included music that has played an important part in my musical life, from my childhood through to the present day, and composers with whom I have a special connection.”

Michael’s varied programme will include Beethoven’s Pathétique Piano Sonata, a suite from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet with works by Chopin, Field, Schumann, Liszt, Schubert and others.
