Wellies on, coats zipped up aaaand go! Tuesday and Friday mornings are all about Highams Park Lake Forest School! If you happen to be walking round the lake you may bump into the tribe of preschoolers exploring, discovering and enjoying our special part of Epping Forest.
Set up by Tinder Sticks Community Interest Company (CIC) and made possible by sponsorship from McRaes Property Services, Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through play, exploration and supported risk taking.
It develops confidence and self-esteem through hands-on experiences in a natural setting. What does that mean? Tree climbing, den making, hammock swinging, playing with mud, playing with sticks, holding bugs connecting children with nature and binding the Forest into their hearts and minds – creating future Forest guardians.
Tinder Sticks CIC are a local social enterprise who have worked hard with support from HPPG to get the Forest School set up at Highams Park Lake and are looking forward to delivering summer holiday activities for the whole family.
McRaes Property provided the financial support to establish the Forest School with the City of London and bought uniform and kit to get it up and running.
Humphrys Cafe will also be providing picnic lunch deals for all participants. With this support and partnership from local businesses it is definitely embedding the Forest School deep within our community. Beginning in June, there will be sessions for the under 2’s as well as 2-4 year olds.
Best wishes Alison O’Connor, Tinder Sticks
