Peta Crisp: Inspired by Nature, Travel and Light

Humphry’s Café in the Park is delighted to exhibit the work of local artist Peta Crisp, whose paintings have previously been featured in the Highams Park Art Trail, The View at Epping Forest Information Centre, and several exhibitions at Loughton Club.

“I’ve always been an artist. Painting and sketching have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, but retirement has finally given me the time to devote myself fully to my passion.

During extensive travels through Nepal, India and Southeast Asia in the 1980s, I kept a visual diary of the extraordinary people, places and moments I encountered. Sketching often felt more expressive than words, and many of those original drawings have since been reimagined as oil paintings.

While acrylics and oil pastels are now my favourite mediums, I still enjoy working with oils and watercolours. I have also created a number of portrait commissions, both of people and beloved pets, using graphite and pen.

Nature and landscapes are my greatest source of inspiration. Epping Forest and Highams Park Lake provide an endless supply of colour, light and atmosphere throughout the changing seasons. That said, I love experimenting too, and occasionally venture into still life and more abstract work whenever inspiration strikes.

I am a member of The Woodford Arts Group and The Seasons Art Class, for which I help tutor art students. I also helped set up a small neighbourhood art group where we have themed studies and group activities.

I hope you enjoy exploring this collection as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
