A little bit about James Alexander Turpin – Illustrative artist / tattooist
“Hi, I’m James and I’m not one for being too formal on these biography things. I’ve lived in and around Highams Park for most of my life so growing up I went to Handsworth Primary , then Highams Park secondary school where I spent a lot of time drawing, when I should have been concentrating in maths.

Having grown up locally I spent a lot of time by the lake and park and I definitely think that had a good influence on my design style and choices, aiming toward natural and fantasy themes.

After school I worked at Electro Signs in Wood Street and can say for certain Chris Bracey (founder of Gods own Junkyard, and funniest man I’ve ever known) was one of the single biggest influences for me in staying creative.

Whilst working I studied art at Epping forest college and then onto London College

of Fashion where I studied “Technical Effects for performance”…which is a long winded way of saying that I made special effects sort of stuff which involved a lot of design and sculpting , which was great in developing my design work.

After years of umming and ahhing about it, I decided to take a leap into tattooing several years ago and now work out of ‘Evil from the Needle’ on Camden High street , where I work in a variety of styles of tattooing and still take on illustrative

commissions alongside tattooing… anyway , I’ve rambled a bit too much , I hope you enjoy the exhibition.”
