At the planning committee meeting of 7th July, 2020 Waltham Forest Council’s planning committee approved amendments to the planning conditions so as to make it easier for redevelopment of the site to take place.
The principal amendment related to increasing from 75% to 83.3% the percentage of flats that can be sold before the cinema is up and running. The developer, Mammoth Capital, said they were unable to raise financing from banks for the project as the previous percentage of 75% was too restrictive.
There were no changes proposed to the plans for a two screen cinema, with a cafe/restaurant and 30 flats. The locally listed frontage of the building will be retained.
Mammoth stated they hope to fulfill the planning conditions and begin work on the site towards the end of this year, with a view to completion and opening of the cinema in December 2022.
Mammoth are in discussions with cinema operators including Curzon and Arthouse.
