A new wall mural has been painted at Wadham Bridge as part of a project to brighten up the Guildford Road underpass. The project was led by Hale End & Highams Park Ward Councillors working with Justine Anderson and Chris Georgiou from the Council’s Neighbourhood’s team and Urbaser’s Community & Engagement Officer – Nicole Blagoeva
With funding provided by Urbaser’s Community Engagement Fund, artists from the locally based “Bread Collective” were appointed to create the mural with designs suggested by Hawthorne Class at Thorpe Hall School based on their experiences of Covid and how they wanted the area to look and feel in the future.
The Community Payback team cleared the area and cut back some of the vegetation ahead of the painting and have been working hard to keep the underpass clean over the last few months. The local Scout leader – Chris Harrison – helped by letting the artists store their kit at Wingrove Hall.
