Last season represented a highpoint in the Society’s history with an outstanding series of recitals. In September, we heard for the first time in All Saints a Stradivarius violin played by Yukiko Ishibashi in her recital with Yuki Negishi. A photograph of that instrument, the 1710 King George, appears on the cover of this booklet. Two months later, Raphael Wallfisch and Simon Callaghan thrilled the audience with their cello and piano recital. Negotiations are in progress for their return at the beginning of the 70th season as members of the Amici Quartet. In June, She’Koyokh brought the season to an exciting conclusion with a sell-out evening of klezmer and global music. There was, quite literally, dancing in the aisles! Nine recitals were held between September and June and we were delighted that the Society’s reputation had continued to grow in Waltham Forest and beyond.
This season, a total of eight recitals – five evening and three lunchtime – will be presented in All Saints Church. The line-up of first-class musicians includes the Ormonde Ensemble (returning to the WFMS for the opening concert), the Bellot Ensemble, Jasmin Allpress (piano), The Paddington Trio (back by popular demand prior to performing in Japan) and the season will end with the first appearance in All Saints of the superb chamber choir Felicitas which has built a reputation for high-quality performances in and around this area.
Lunchtime recitals guests will be Ami Lodge (flute) with Timur Dersuniyelioglu (guitar), The Galliard Trio (flute, oboe, bassoon and piano) and the Kassia Trio (saxophones and piano).
We have been fortunate to have engaged soprano Marilyn Hill Smith to give the season’s guest presentation. On Friday, October 10th she will talk about her career as a renowned artist in the world of opera, operetta and musical theatre.
As usual, the calendar includes both the ever-popular Christmas Committee Choice evening, during which members will be able to enjoy a selection of festive and non-festive music accompanied by wine and mince pies, and Members’ Evening which has been scheduled for the end of March.
