In March this year, Highams Park Community CIC used crowd funding to purchase and install a top of the range defibrillator and cabinet in Humphry’s Cafe, in The Highams Park, IG8 9RB. This will be available and easy to use in the case of a cardiac arrest in the park or nearby. The people of Highams Park were amazingly generous it only took one week to raise the money.
People of all ages and backgrounds use the The Highams Park for exercise running clubs, joggers, exercise classes and walkers, so we thought it would be a good idea to have a defibrillator installed.
Defibrillators can save lives. When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, the chance of survival falls by 10% every minute without action. However, with CPR and the use of a defibrillator within 3 minutes, the chance of survival could be as high as 70%. These devices can be used by people, often with little or no training, to re-start the heart of a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Highams Park Community CIC (“HP CIC”) is a community interest company which was set up by members of the Highams Park Planning Group (HPPG) in 2017 with the aim of delivering projects for local people in the Highams Park Plan Area.
